4th Meeting of the GTFCC Working Group on WASH

Summary

The WASH WG meeting was an opportunity to get an update and discuss challenges and next steps for the implementation of the Ending Cholera Roadmap in countries, especially with regards to the WASH pillar.

The proposed specific objectives and topics for discussion were as follows:

To provide an update on the implementation of the Ending Cholera Roadmap and integration of WASH into country National Cholera Plans (NCPs) plans including:

  • General update from GTFCC – including other WGs
  • Perspectives from participating countries
  • Lessons learnt and way forward to engage countries in multisectoral cholera control targeting cholera hotspots

To discuss WASH specific-support to countries and follow up from the 2018 annual meeting including:

  • Review of achievements since the 2018 meeting
  • Update on the development of the Cholera Elimination Framework to guide countries on how to structure a National Cholera Control/Elimination Plan (NCP), especially with regards to WASH interventions (define WASH indicators needed for hotspot identification, define WASH light vs longer term interventions, OCV+WASH synergy, standard M&E approaches and impact evaluation)
  • Update on the development of the “WASH Package” (i.e. set of activities and interventions needed under the WaSH pillar for cholera control)
  • Launch of the Investment Case – including advocacy and financing for WASH interventions

To review the WASH research agenda:

  • Feedback from the “GTFCC RESEARCH AGENDA SCOPING MEETING” hosted by DFID and Wellcome Trust in London on 23-24 July 2018
  • Update from partners on research projects
  • Agreement on the WASH WG research priorities for 2019

To discuss and agree on the work plan and priorities for the WASH WG in 2019
