Zanzibar has launched a multi-sectoral and multi-year Cholera Elimination Plan to end cholera by 2027. This strategic plan was officially launched by His Excellency the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein. Present during the occasion were Ministers, Members of Parliament, UN and other bilateral and multi-lateral organization representatives and the public.

The Zanzibar Comprehensive Cholera Elimination Plan (ZACCEP) has a total budget of 51,788,686 USD of which the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar will contribute 10%. During the launching, the President stated that access to safe water, sanitation and clean environment is the right of every citizen. To ensure that this right is fulfilled, the government is implementing several projects, in collaboration with regional and international partners, to improve water and sanitation infrastructures in the Islands.

The ZACCEP is aligned with the Ending Cholera: A Global Roadmap to 2030 launched by the Global Task Force on Cholera Control (GTFCC) in October 2017. The partners of the GTFCC are committed to support the implementation of Zanzibar’s Cholera Elimination Plan.
