The fight against cholera has seen significant strides between 2022 and 2024, with unprecedented political commitment, strengthened country support, and enhanced global coordination. This GTFCC Progress Report provides a comprehensive overview of the milestones achieved, challenges encountered, and priorities ahead in the journey toward cholera elimination.

From high-level political engagement to expanding National Cholera Plans (NCPs) and increasing Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) efforts, the past two years have been pivotal. Over 100 million OCV doses have been shipped, 11 countries have finalized NCPs, 23 countries have identified their Priority Areas for Multisectoral Interventions (PAMIs), and technical working groups have provided critical guidance across cholera case management, WaSH, epidemiology, Laboratory and OCV.

Cholera burden - Past achievements at risk

Despite these advancements, cholera remains a pressing global health threat, with outbreaks rising in both endemic and previously unaffected regions. The path to achieving the 2030 Roadmap goals—reducing cholera deaths by 90% and eliminating the disease in 20 countries—requires sustained investment, strengthened multisectoral action, and a continued commitment from governments, donors, and global health stakeholders.
