6th Meeting of the GTFCC Working Group on Surveillance Webinars

Summary

At the end of 2020, sub working groups of the Surveillance Working Group have been created to address priority topics.

Webinars were organized in April 2021 for the sub working groups to present their progress to the Surveillance Working Group and to invite feedback.

Session 1: Tuesday, March 30, 2021 (16:00-17:30 CET)

Updates from the Surveillance & Global Monitoring sub-group and the Outbreak sub-group

A review of cholera case definitions (acute watery diarrhea, suspected case, probable case, confirmed case) and a review of cholera outbreak definitions (suspected outbreak, confirmed outbreak, end of outbreak -in persistent and non-persistent transmission settings) were presented and discussed.

Of note, the definitions presented were preliminary and will undergo further revisions.

Session 2: Tuesday, April 27, 2021 (15:00-16:30 CEST)

Updates from the Hotspot sub-group and the Regional surveillance approaches sub-group

The draft revised framework for the identification of cholera burden hotspots and the assessment of cholera control pillars as well as the method developed for conducting a landscape analysis of regional cholera surveillance and coordination platforms were presented and discussed.
Of note, the approaches presented were preliminary and will undergo further revisions.
